Ishant vs Symonds: Who is to blame?

Ishant Sharma prepares to bowl to Andrew Symonds during the CB Series match against Australia in Sydney on Sunday.

The match referee on Monday fined Ishant Sharma 15 per cent of his match fee for his conduct involving the spat with Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds. Symonds, who was bowled for 59 in the 45th over, did not leave the ground before exchanging some heated words with the Indian paceman following which the umpires asked the visiting team's player to show restraint. Ishant was called up for hearing after the two umpires lodged a complaint against him. Crowe found the young fast bowler guilty of uncalled for aggressive gesture or action by the bowler towards a batsman pointing towards the pavilion. But Symonds went unpunished although the spat happened as a result of Symonds' provocation.
