Historic India-Sri Lanka contests

Sri Lanka's highest score against India at home came at the Ransinghe Premadasa Stadium in Colombo in the first Test of the two-match series in 1997-98. India, under captaincy of Sachin Tendulkar, made 537-8 dec in the first innings. In reply, the hosts, powered by a brilliant triple century by Sanath Jayasuriya (340), piled on 952-6. Roshan Mahanama scored a double hundred (225) as Aravinda de Silva chipped in with 126. ST Jayasuriya and RS Mahanama batted throughout one day, the 12th occasion in Test cricket. India's opener Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sachin Tendulkar and Md Azharuddin slammed a hundred each as 537-8 was also India's highest total against the islanders in Sri Lanka so far. The match ended in a draw as the two-match series was levelled 0-0 at the end.
