Historic India-Sri Lanka contests
Sri Lanka's highest score against India in India came in at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur in 1986-97. After winning the toss, Sri Lankan skipper Duleep Mendis chose to bat first. The visitors were bowled out for 420 in the first innings. In reply, Sunil Gavaskar scored 176, powered with 22 fours, as India were 676-7 before the first of the three-match series ended in a draw. Sunil Gavaskar was adjudged player of the match. Interestingly, this match also witnessed India's highest total against Sri Lanka in a Test match at home.
