1985: Winning World Championship of cricket
Despite being World Cup winners in 1983, India went into the tournament, held in Australia, as underdogs. But the team, which had quite a few new names and led by Sunil Gavaskar, had an unbeaten run in the competition to beat Pakistan in the final. Ravi Shastri's superb all-round show earned him the man of the series award, while opener Kris Srikkanth came into his own, along with newcomers Mohammad Azharuddin and Laxman Sivaramkrishnan.
