Gayle might be thinking why did Powell deny a single...The next ball saw Powell playing a rash shot on the offside to be caught by Muralidaran to end the match. Mahela Jayawardena's brilliant captaincy helped Sri Lanka win their first Test on the West Indian soil by 121 runs. Vaas kept striking at regular intervals and ended up taking 5 wickets in the innings. Sri Lanka made 476 runs in the first innings, thanks to some excellent batting from Jayawardena and Warnapura. West Indies had no answer and were bowled out for 280 runs conceding a lead of 196 runs. Sri Lanka knew victory was near with this massive lead as they added more 240 runs to set the Windies a target of 437 runs.
