Charges against Dalmiya firmed up
Mumbai: The economic offences wing of the Mumbai police has completed investigations into charges of misappropriation of funds by the former BCCI Chief Jagmohan Dalmiya.
The investigators have allegedly found evidence of misappropriation of Rs. 2 crore 90 lakh.
A chargesheet against the former ICC president could be filed on Wednesday. He has also been asked to be present in the sessions court that day.
The case relates to an account opened with the Indian Overseas Bank during the 1996 World Cup. Dalmiya was authorised to operate the account along with the Pakistan Cricket Board.
In 2006 when Sharad Pawar was elected as BCCI president, the account was closed. The BCCI then asked Dalmiya to provide details of the spent funds.
The cricket board accused Dalmiya of using over 21 lakh rupees from the account for his personal use.
However, the current President of the BCCI - Sharad Pawar denied that the board was carrying out a witch-hunt on Dalmiya.
"I don't have anything against anybody and I don't believe in harbouring grudges. Since I have been in the public eye for such a long time I have always believed that personal and professional lives should be kept different."
For his part Dalmiya remains defiant. In a press release sent to various media organisations, Dalmiya has been quoted as saying, "Challenging the actions taken by the BCCI against me, I had filed a suit in the honourable High court in which an order has been passed which states that the actions taken were totally illegal.
"In that proceeding, office bearers of BCCI had filed an application supported by an affidavit containing blatantly incorrect statements for which I have filed an application praying before the HC to initiate proceedings for perjury against the concerned office bearers of the BCCI.
"So far I have not received any copy of the alleged charge-sheet. I do not wish to comment at this stage on hypothetical statements. However, I would revert if a charge-sheet is filed and a copy of it is served on me."
