S. Arun Continued ....
The reason for this is that Aus. has come down a notch recently losing 4 in a row not defending 337 against NZ today with the bowling attack more or less the one in WC except Lee who is doubtful anyway. SA looks extremely good but Pak beat them in 1 match convincingly. Eng. is resurgent with good finds in Joyce & Plunkett plus add Pieterson. SL with Vaas & Murli will be tough and their repeated recovery after top order collapse shows their strength. Ind. is looking impressive with batsmen in good nick & bowlers doing well except at the death. Erratic Pak. can be underestimated by others at their own peril. NZ is playing well with perhaps the best all rounders in the game (M/S Oram & Vettori) adding depth. WI with Sarwan and the decent bowling attack is a force esp. at home. Yet all repeat all the teams have also looked vulnerable! So, guys lick your lips in anticipation. And hope India does have the last laugh and bring us the Cup. S. Arun I am a great supporter of the Indian cricket but I am a cricket fan first. Though I would like India to win I am really looking forward to 1&1/2 months of quality and competitive cricket. I think ICC has got the format right this time. There is no chance of a Kenya or a Bangladesh sneaking into the semis as the super 8s ensures that 2 good sides are not eliminated early. Even if one of the minnows repalce a better team in the next round they cannot get past the other 7 by the odd upset win. Not that there is much chance of any of the teams other than the 8 established sides of making it beyond round 1. The other good thing about this cup is that unlike previous editions any 4 teams could reach the semis. Previously 2 or 3 teams were already ahead of the others and almost assured of a semi-final birth while the others fought for the remaining 1 or 2 slots. But look at it this time with this format. The teams in the semis could be Aus. Ind. SA and NZ. but it is not unimaginable that it could be Eng. WI, Pak and SL ! or any other combination of 4.
