Mumbai: The senior players in the West Indies cricket team have now expressed concerns over going to Pakistan. Hence, even if the tour to the troubled nation materialises, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will have to send a young or a second string team.
Desperate for some cricket action after the postponement of the Champions Trophy and the lack of interest shown by both South Africa and Sri Lanka to tour Pakistan, the PCB had approached the WICB for a two-match Test series.
WICB chief executive Donald Peters was quoted as saying that he was notified by the players’ association that the senior players were unwilling to go to Pakistan by the Caribbean Media Corporation in Port of Spain on Friday.
"The response coming from the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA) president is that players are not willing to go," he said.
"However, the WICB is taking a new approach to things now and we did our own poll of the players and we found that the majority of the younger players would go, the senior players chose not to," he added.
