Why Zimbabwe has become an issue

"Cricket? It civilises people and creates good gentlemen. I want everyone in to play cricket in Zimbabwe. I want ours to be a nation of gentlemen." It is uncertain when Robert Mugabe expressed these thoughts. It would have most likely been the early to mid-1980s as at the time he was the African nation's prime minister. Read The Article

JNC What is needed is for Zimbawe Cricket to honest and admit they are iun a mess and the game has all but been killed off by the thugs who were in Dubai.
Our game has been so poliicised that we even the scorecards of games are reworked to balance and what kind of system is that? Lovemore Banda has banned all local media who are not carrying Zanu-PF cards. Where is the freedom in that? And this is what the ICC uphold? It''s pure racism and they need to be told this. But they ignore it.
Also Nelson Mandela''s quaotes were not published here. So how can the general population know of his commnets and reactions to our plight.
You can bet that Chingoka and Bvute don''t starve; or their grandchilfren and children. But we suffer.
How much of the ICC money goes toward financing the game and how much to buy fancy suits for these thugs? Questions need asking.

SaulP Associate status is going to solve nothing. Crooks and Mugabe aligned thugs like Chingoka and Bvute drive in smart cars and live a life of luxury while the rest of us starve.
We haven''t seen any funds to develop the game outside of schools; the youth programme of ten yeard ago is dead. Why some of the clubs can''t afford a set of stumps and as for the balls, there are the cheap imitation rubbish at a Millon and a half Zim dollars. It''s a joke.

S. M. Godbole Not only Zimbabwe but Bangaladesh too should be relegated to Associate status. In fact there must be system by which a team doing badly for any reason gets downgraded while a certain criteria must be laid to become full memeber. Number of full memebrs should be ristricted to eight. ( Posted: Saturday , July 05, 2008 at 10:09 )
Silentecho I agree with you, moving Zimbabwe to associate status sounds good. It does have its disadvantages like continued ignorance by Zimbabwean cricket authorities, but it will send a strong message. It will be even better, if this decision is reached with unanimous consent. Another great column, Cheers! ( Posted: Friday , July 04, 2008 at 04:21 )
