Hyderabad: Adam Gilchrist spent most of his international career as part of a team that mercilessly thrashed opponents. After retirement the tables have turned - his team - the Deccan Chargers finished at the bottom of the IPL league table. But in an exclusive interview with CNN-IBN's Roma Khanna, Gilchrist said that he is hopeful of a turnaround next year.
Adam Gilchrist: It is disappointing for everyone. Not more for me that any teammate next to me. It is as simple as that. I didn't come here thinking just because I played for Australia I will guarantee a success here - it is far from that. The game owes you nothing. I really appreciated my time in the Australian team but it has been a different experience here - one that it has been a great challenge and second is that I have really enjoyed myself here. It has been a very fulfilling experience.
CNN-IBN: What exactly went wrong with the team? Too many brilliant players who could click on any day but other teams were comprised of the brilliant, good, better and the average but probably, your team had too many brilliant players.
Adam Gilchrist: I don't think we had too many brilliant players but we definitely have the talent. A little bit of belief perhaps left us as we were facing loss after loss. We will have to dust away all this and go and reflect on all our mistakes. And like every other franchisee, we also would have to review on what we did - what worked and what didn't.
CNN-IBN: What exactly in your opinion is a way forward, as in there has been a lot of talk about probably the player cap being lifted from 5 million for the franchisee, so that there could be more money coming into it?
