Dubai: Cricket's world governing body has moved Kenya's Intercontinental Cup match against Namibia from Nairobi to Sharjah because of continued post-election violence which has claimed 575 lives.
The match will take place January 29 - February 1st in the United Arab Emirates city and was originally scheduled for Nairobi January 30 - February 2nd. It is part of the International Cricket Council's second tier competition below the ranks of test playing nations.
"It is difficult at any time to make late changes to international tours and this decision is no different because of the interest in cricket in Kenya," said ICC High Performance manager Richard Done.
"However, the safety of all participants is always our number one priority."
"In conjunction with the three affected countries Kenya, Namibia and the United Arab Emirates and to ensure travel and other logistics could be put in place with some certainty, it has been decided to move the Kenya vs. Namibia match to the UAE."
Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Bermuda, Canada and the UAE are the other teams involved in the competition. Kenya tops the standings after winning its first two matches
