Vengsarkar playing his cards well

Dilip Vengsarkar, who has 'lorded' over the selection committee and who many feel is being treated badly by the Indian cricket Board, may actually be getting away with butter and cream in the ongoing tussle that is proving an embarrassment for virtually all concerned. Read The Article

Indian Cricket (GB) A few analysts have pointed out here that Vengsarkar should choose between being the chief selector and a newspaper columnist. Why are they not asking how come then a politician can remain both a cabinet minister and the president of BCCI? What right BCCI then has got to give Vengsarkar this singular choice? Jayant.G. vensarkar is not doing good to the cricket even after giving all his life to the Indian cricket he has stuck to writing columns in the papers, no harm in that too but he has choose between the two chairman or writing columns he better choose for the latar. satrajit ghosh Selecting the right player from a list of 100 probable is difficult. To get the bunch in right pathway like winning an away series in England after 1986 or winning the right combination for 20-20 world cup is even much tougher.
Furthermore, to do all these jobs done when the august cooperation of Shahs or Suklas(who are more famous for mispronouncing ''Tendulker'' or ''Ganguly''than undersatnding cricket) is almost impossible.
One must understand the billions of bucks in cricket will dry out very soon if our own team fails to deliver.

Ganguly Lover Agreed. Kiran More played dirty politics, sided with the Firangi (Chappal), and wanted to sideline our beloved SAURAV GANGULY. Vengsarkar freed God Ganguly from the lockup of More and Chappal. All Ganguly Lovers have immense respect for Vengsarkar and disdain for Chappal. Indian Cricket (GB) Vengsarkar has done a tremendous service to the Indian Cricket as the chief selector by banishing the More-Chappell nightmare. He has made and implemented correct decisions on most occasions and the success of the current Indian team shows that.

He and everybody, including all the BCCI office-bearers, should be careful while giving public opinions (but remember that Chappell had taken public mud-slinging to its lowest extreme).

The players too earn commercial endorsements because of their place in the Indian team, so there is nothing wrong if the chief selector also makes extra money, because of his position, as long as safeguards are put in place so that the commercial interests do not impinge upon his main job - the selection process.

Why the politicians are so attracted to running the BCCI? Is the wealth of BCCI in some way the reason? What is the procedure that makes the BCCI and its office-bearers accountable to the Indian people? ( Posted: Monday , December 10, 2007 at 17:19 )
more Sum Mr. Vengsarkar''s penchant for drawing attention to himself, relying on the Maratha lobby to let him get away with every breach of selectorial decorum and wanting his cake and eating it , has brought the Indian selection process to a new low.
Why should such hubris be rewarded? ( Posted: Sunday , December 09, 2007 at 01:46 )
siva As a public and correct thinking person, we should not allow BCCI to dictate terms like this to each and every one. This will embolden the BCCI and they will come up with the same kind of arguments.

1. Sachin is getting endorsements since he is playing in team which is selected by BCCI. So he should not give endorsements. Going by your own argument, if Sachin is not playing for India under BCCI he will not get endorsements.

Never support this kind of argument from board. They have picked up the CHief Selector who is not paid by BCCI. THey have hte audacity to stop writing inspite of not paying even a single paise for his job.

Take the case of Niranjan shah, srinivasan etc they are all swindling the money and trying to push their sons into the team.

It is utter foolish to support these scoundarels. Their performance so far has not earned even a single paise for the BCCI.
Vengsarkar while he played, he brought some money to BCCI.
What is the contribution of these scoundarels who talk about properitery in public life.
Niranjan shah is trying to push his son into the team and he was unsuccessful because vengsarkar did not agree to his diktats.

asif Vengsarkar is certainly playing politics in the selection matters. Take the example of Mohammed Kaif, who till last year was supported and considered as the future captain of India by the Kiran More - Greg Chappel team (who were really doing something positive for Indian cricket) was totally neglected and discarded by Vengsarkar. He openly has said that Kaif is not at all in his scheme of things because of his partiallity and disliking for him. Are Rohit Sharma and Kathick are better than Kaif. No way. Every player goes thru a bad patch. Has he forgotten the continous failures of Yuraj Singh. He is certainly playing politics. The hype of Dhoni as captain is not going to last long because anybody can''t become a leader overnight (as Vengsarkar thinks of Dhoni). Just wait and see it is a matter of time the people will realise the mistake of Hyping and projecting Dhoni as great Indian captain. Was Vengsarkar ever considered as a Good Leader in his playing days ? No .. Never ( Posted: Saturday , December 08, 2007 at 14:21 )
