New Delhi: It seems that winning the Twenty20 World Championship does not qualify the Indian players as patriots.

Kanpur-based lawyer Rahul Pandey feels Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his teammates insulted the Indian Flag while celebrating their win against Pakistan in the final in South Africa.

Pandey has filed a petition before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Kanpur alleging that the Indian players showed disrespect to the Tricolour.

"Dhoni and several other players not only wrapped themselves in the Tricolour, but also rolled on the ground. This was followed by spraying of champagne that fell on the flag," the petition says.

Pandey say this is enough proof of the insult to the flag. The matter will come up for hearing on October 25.

The petitioner's counsel Vijay Bakshi said that they "have cited sufficient evidence in the form of television, magazine and newspaper clippings" in support of their claim.

"What we found even more shocking was the fact that despite showing disrespect to the national flag, these players were felicitated and showered with gifts and monetary awards, when they actually deserved punishment for their act," Bakshi was quoted as saying by IANS.

The petition names Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary Niranjan Shah, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan and former India player and commentator for tournament broadcaster ESPN-Star Sports Ravi Shastri as the witnesses.
