On a day when India seemed to have lost the plot just as they conceded far too many runs to hand England the initiative, it was again the batting to the rescue as a collective effort saw them pull off a thrilling win by two wickets in the sixth and penultimate match of the seven-match series to draw level.

It was Robin Uthappa, drafted into the game as a last-minute replacement of Dinesh Karthik as the seventh batsman of the side, turned the tide towards India's favour.

After a blistering start by openers Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, India were all but on their way to knock off England's massive total of 316. But a wicket and a sudden injury that led to a wicket saw both openers back in the pavilion and the pressure back on the visitors.

But a sixth-wicket partnership between Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Robin Uthappa that turned the game on its head.

Robin Uthappa, playing his first match in the series after featuring in a one-off ODI against Scotland, plundered 47 runs from just 33 balls, and struck a vital boundary in the last over to guide India to a series-levelling win.
