ICL unveils team gear

Mumbai: The Indian Cricket League, which has set forth an agenda to present new cricketing talent packed with high quality training, now adds a swish couture to its repertoire. ICL has roped in renowned designers ‘Shantanu and Nikhil’ to design the team uniforms Ahmedabad Rockets and Lahore Badshahs. The cricket gears for the earlier 6 teams (Chennai Superstars, Kolkata Tigers, Delhi Giants, Mumbai Champs, Hyderabad Heroes and Chandigarh Lions) have been designed by Manish Arora.
The inspiration to design these team gears has been drawn from what each team stands for and is customised to reflect each team’s philosophy and spirit. The graphics and the colors are based on team names and affiliations and are intended to give a global yet essentially personal and exhilarating touch to the teams.
For Lahore Badhshahs, the designers have created a look inspired by the motif of the sword, while for Ahmedabad Rockets they have used designs which show the energy and power that their name suggests. The designers have used colors of celebration like red and saffron which are also the colors of fire and energy, against a shining metallic backdrop to symbolize fireworks in the night.
According to Shantanu, “It’s the ‘sports-meets-fashion concept’ that really got us excited. We have used this opportunity to create clothes which make the sportsmen look edgy and cool, without losing that sporting touch. Our aim has been to make them look like global players and we have taken inspiration from their own team affiliation and name.”
They further added, “We have had close associations with both cricket and tennis for a long time. As sportspeople ourselves, we understand the spirit of the game. Thanks to ICL we have this exciting opportunity to now create clothes for sportspeople.”
The designer duo started their brand ‘Shantanu and Nikhil’ in 1999 and have gone on to dress personalities as famous as Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Leander Peas, Amitabh Bachchan, Isha Shravani & Manoj Bajpai amongst others. The designer-duo has two signature stores in the prime locations of New Delhi, besides having a strong presence in couture stores nationally and internationally. Internationally, the label is available in Dubai, Kuwait, Tokyo, Switzerland, Birmingham, London, Jeddah, New York, Vancouver.
