Full name: Sourav Chandidas Ganguly
Born on: July eight, 1972 at Kolkata
Teams represented: India, Asian Eleven, Lancashire and Glamorgan.
Specialty: Left hand batsman and right arm medium pacer
Profile: One of the mainstays of Indian batting in both Test and One-Day cricket for the past decade, Ganguly made his Test debut against England in July 1996. He has scored 6581 runs from 103 Tests and 169 innings with 239 being his highest score for an average of 42.45, including 15 centuries and 32 fifties and has held 66 catches.
The southpaw, who made his ODI debut against the West Indies at Brisbane on January 11, 1992 has a magnificent record as an opening batsman and was considered the best opening pair while partnering batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar.
From 311 matches, Ganguly has scored 11,363 runs with 183 as his highest for an average of 41.02 and a strike rate of 73.70 with 22 tons and 72 half centuries and has the distinction of taking 100 wickets with his medium pacers conceding 3849 runs with five for 16 as his best and also taking 100 catches.
Even though he has not played in a Twenty20 international he has about 18 ties to his credit in domestic cricket playing for Bengal with a top score of 73 and the best bowling figures of three for 27.
Being the Icon player and the skipper of the Bengal team, Ganguly is set to make over one million US Dollars per year.
