Kevin Pietersen could miss England's first Test against the West Indies at Lord's after tearing a calf muscle.
The 26-year-old batsman was hurt in Monday's One-day match against Ireland, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a news release.
"He underwent a precautionary MRI scan earlier today and has been withdrawn from Wednesday's county championship match against Lancashire," said the ECB.
"A further assessment of the injury will be made later this week."
England already have fitness doubts over captain Michael Vaughan for the first test at Lord`s starting on May 17.
Vaughan, who has not played in a Test for 18 months due to other injuries, broke his finger last Thursday while batting for Yorkshire against Hampshire.
England are due to name their squad for the first Test on Sunday.
Pietersen, was one of the few players to emerge from the disastrous trip to Australia last winter with his reputation intact.
In the Test series his top score was 158 and he hit three half-centuries before being ruled out of the one-day series with a cracked rib, although he regained fitness to play in the World Cup where he averaged 55.
