New Delhi: He was the man whose fighting innings at Lord's took India to one of their most thrilling victories and made his captain, Sourav Ganguly to rip his shirt off and wave it in celebration.

Six years later, Mohammad Kaif is struggling to break into the national squad. After leading Uttar Pradesh into the final of the Ranji trophy and scoring 1397 runs this season alone along with being part of the victorious Jaipur side in the Indian Premier League, Kaif finds himself ignored once again from the 16-memeber Test squad to tour Sri Lanka.

Kaif was part of the squad that played South Africa in Kanpur where he came in place if the injured Sachin Tendulkar. Looking back at his career, the disappointment is evident.

"It was great playing for the country. There are no regret but there is no satisfaction either," said the 27-year old in an interview to the Hindustan Times

Though Kaif has not given up hope yet.

"I am there to play and will continue to do so. Selection is something that I have no control over. It's my love of the game that keeps me going irrespective of my selection. I play for my state with dedication; I play with dedication for any team I am representing," stated Kaif.

"I am ready to play anytime, but I can't say about what selectors have in mind and on what basis they will pick someone," he added

But Kaif, one of the best fielders India have produced, said that he is happy for his state teammates, who are a regular features in the Indian squad.

"It's nice to see them playing. I am always there to share my experiences with them. If I can be of help to them in any kind of way, that would be good. The current bunch is talented; RP Singh, Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla, Praveen Kumar, are talented boys and its good to see them play for the country," he concluded.
