Full name: Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Born on: July 7, 1981 in Ranchi (Bihar)

Teams represented: India, and Asia Eleven.

Specialty: Wicketkeeper and right hand batsman.

Profile: Another hard hitting batsman to have come up in the recent times, Dhoni made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Chennai in December 2005 and has since cemented his place in the Test squad after improving his wicket-keeping tremendously.

From 26 Test matches and 43 innings he has scored 1304 runs with 148, the lone century so far, as his highest score apart from eight half centuries. He has also taken 65 catches and affected 13 stumping so far.

After making his ODI debut against Bangladesh in Chittagong on December 23, 2004, Dhoni, went from strength to strength scoring 3134 runs from 104 matches with an unbeaten 183 as his highest score for an impressive average of 45.42 and a strike rate of 91.74, which also includes three tons and 19 half centuries and taking 101 catches and 31 stumping behind the wicket.

After making his Twenty20 International debut against South Africa at Johannesburg on December one, 2006, Dhoni went on to lead India to the World Cup triumph the very next year and has so far scored 172 runs from ten Twenty20 internationals with 45 as his best for an amazing strike rate of 111.68 and two catches behind the wicket.

Dhoni, who will be leading the Chennai team in the IPL tourney, is the highest paid player in the tournament with a whooping 1.5 million Dollars per year (around Rs six crores) and has the world’s highest wicket taker Muthiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka and Kiwi skipper Stephen Fleming in his ranks.
