Mumbai: While the entire India is discussing the Test team, and the fact that Yuvraj Singh has finally been shown the door, the fine print in the Champions Trophy probables' list seems to be escaping all.
It now seems that Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid are not even good enough to make the probables' list for any limited-overs tournament.
This is a stark contradiction from the way the Indian Premier League was played, where these two icon players, along with VVS Laxman, were good investments.
However, in the world of real competitive cricket, they are way over the hill to fit in, if the list is to be interpreted correctly.
India’s under-19 skipper Virat Kohli and Mumbai youngster Abhishek Nayar have been selected in the list of 30 probables for ICC Champions Trophy after their showing in the IPL.
Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane are the other two youngsters who made the list. The discarded Mohd. Kaif too was included in the probables.
The national selection committee, which met here on Tuesday, has shortlisted the players list for the ICC’s mega event to be held in Pakistan in September as the 30-member list has to be sent to the ICC one month before the tournament starts, a press release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary said.
Probables: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla, RP Singh, Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Manpreet Gony, Pragyan Ojha, Parthiv Patel, Dinesh Karthik, S Badrinath, Mohammed Kaif, Manoj Tiwary, Abhishek Nayar, Pankaj Singh, Murali Kartik, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, Yusuf Pathan and S Sreesanth.
