Inzamam loathes idea of being 'auctioned'

New Delhi: Adam Gilchrist said he felt like a cow when he was auctioned in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq says he would not have felt any better had he too been put under the hammer.

"I think it does not sound nice to your ears when you hear a cricketer being auctioned or sold. They could have easily avoided it and done it in a better way," Inzamam said.

"People bidding for players in such a manner, this is obviously not something I would be keen to see happening with myself," he told reporters here on Monday.

Asked if it was a case of sour grapes after he aligned with the rebel Indian Cricket League, Inzamam, who leads the Lahore Badshah team in ICL's Edelweiss 20 Challenge, said, "Not at all. I'm happy with ICL and I thank god that I'm not up for grabs."

Incidentally, Gilchrist was not the only one to feel bad about the IPL bidding. Former India captain Rahul Dravid too did not like it and said he hoped it would not happen again.

Former Sri Lanka skipper Marvan Atapattu felt the IPL auction could have been done in a dignified way even though he pointed out that this was not the first time that players were up for grabs.

"I think the bidding was an indication of your worth, almost like rankings. Well, maybe they should not have done it in the open, maybe some felt it humiliating. But we have already seen it in some other form in football, isn't it?" he said.
