Mumbai: An ankle injury almost ended Ashish Nehra's international career but he is back and making quite a statement at the IPL. Playing for the Mumbai Indians, Nehra has bowled well in virtually all games, capping it off with a superb performance on Wednesday night's encounter against the Rajasthan Royals. He spoke to CNN-IBN's Roma Khanna.
Ashish Nehra: Everyone knows that I am playing after so long. It is a good platform for me to bowl as one has to bowl only four overs. But to straight away play in this format has been tough, so, I am getting back the confidence. Hopefully it will be good for me.
CNN-IBN: Was it as easy as you made to look like against Rajasthan Royals yesterday, who you bowled out for 103?
Ashish Nehra: No, it is never easy in twenty20. It is always difficult, specially for a bowler and where I am bowling - the first 6 overs and after 15, is always going to be tough. You never know - in one game you can pick 2, 3 or even 4 wickets but in the next match, you may just give away huge runs. So, for me I am going to be always happy as long as my team is winning and as long as my body is ok.
Even if I am giving 40 runs in 4 overs but my team is winning and my body is feeling fine as that was my main problem in the last year and a half. For me that is the main concern. And the more I play, my body will get better and my rhythm will get better.
CNN-IBN: When you came to play for Mumbai, not having played for a while. How was it for you?
Ashish Nehra: It is always tough for the bowlers, especially as I knew that I was coming back straight to T20 in IPL. I knew it would going to be a big tournament of international standards. So, I knew it would always by difficult. But as I said, the more I play, it will start getting better. I love challenges, like bowling on the flat wickets or bowling with the new or the old ball in the circle, so, I am enjoying it.
CNN-IBN: You know that now that the team has won three straight matches, so you guys have got the momentum, you can only get better from here?
Ashish Nehra: You cannot say anything in twenty20. But obviously, now the momentum is on our side. Still we will have to play good cricket. First round we have played 7 games, now the next round is going to be crucial for us but as we have the momentum with us, so, hopefully, we will keep up the good work.
