On the day when Sachin was bleating in front of his drroling fans [who burnt effigies of him just days before or heckled him in Bombay itself] I was quite moved too but did feel some elements [like Jha] can go ahead and kill Chappell too. No point in saying we are all sadhus and won’t harm anyone etc. These are the same guys who won’t eat meat but will swallow humans. Can you ever trust people like these. Someone like Modi and Chauhan holding public offices. Can anyone feel safe ? Yet, to the credit of Greg Chappell, he did not run away. If Sachin or Yuvraj or Harbhajan were in his shoes, they won’t have even dared to return back to a foreign land where you are employed [having such elements and culture]. For that matter, can Modi or Bal Thackaray dare to visit Pakistan or even Kashmir. Such people keep talking from only their lair. That is why even at the point when INDIA is truly emerging in the World Scene we are being pulled back by various factors. We just don’t seem to understand what is COURAGE even ! Let alone exhibiting it !!

It is sad, we Indians are unable to think, act and judge logically. Cricket is only a sport, but the Indian fans are not truly ‘Sporting’ , neither they are truly patriotic. Because of such fanaticism, we are bound to believe anything can happen in India. Something like ‘Gandhi being assasinated’, ‘A sitting MP being burnt by a crowd encircling his own house’, ‘A saint who was serving lepers being burnt in his car along with his sons’,’A professor being beaten to death’ etc. and etc. At this point, I am really ashamed of being an Indian. To think that I was even admiring people like Sachin seems to be a mistake and a far off memory.

People seem to be opining without understanding what the issue is. Anyway, Chappell has clarified that he did NOT fear for life. Btw, one may ask why in first place should he have feared for life - for India’s abysmal performance in WC? Or, for showing middle finger to Indian crowd? (Unfortunately, Indians were too divided, self seeking, servile to have given this boorish Chappell a resounding slap for his misdemeanour). And, those people who are TOTALLY exonerating this schmuck of any responsibility for India’s debacle forget that this uncultured creature was not found suitable to be coach for Australian team for all of his grandiose ‘vision’ and ‘competence’. Cricket Australia appointed Tim Nielson (who hasn’t played any International level match) after Moody withdrew from the race. Finally, Chappell didn’t hold mirror to anybody as some so-called experts have blabbered. If one reads the statements he gave about players, including Sachin, in 22 months one would find that he was simply playing games and didn’t seem to have any clue as to which direction he should be going. Despite all this we have people coming out slavishly to sing paeans for this incompetent Aussie!

When it comes to Greg Chappell , i think some emotional fans and a section of the media take premeditated positions ! Those who dont like him dont even bother to read properly ..and start criticizing . I dont hold a brief for him . History will record his contribution to Indian cricket . This ''star system'' needs to be attacked ruthlessly , Greg or no Greg . These guys''s records are useless if they cannot contribute to win . and yes , for God''s sake , Greg Chappell did NOT prevent a mediocre target like 254 from being chased against SL . It is these stars , our so-called seniors who are solely to blame . They complain of ''insecurity''! Of course they need to be made insecure -for performance enhancement . Too much security doesnt lead to a hunger for victory . In needle / death situations , Ponting NEVER fails! And Sachin NEVER succeeds !! This is what Greg tried to crack but he wasnt allowed to do his job in an Australian way by this ''caucus'' of seniors . Now these failed stars want to manipulate media and incite fans against the coach . The coach actually held a mirror . Rightly supported by Pataudi , Shastri & Manjrekar .

True, Greg Chappell had some interesting ideas and that was why he was selected out of all the candidates for the job. Also true, is that he had the collaboration of the selectors, board, captain and players like no other captain before him...not even Saurav Ganguly who had a "favorable" establishment. Yet, the first thing debaters for Mr.Chappell''s corner begin with is run down the other side with statements like "When it comes to Greg Chappell , i think some emotional fans and a section of the media take premeditated positions ! Those who dont like him don''t even bother to read properly ..and start criticizing ."
It creates some position for them when they have none in the face of complete failure. Then the next point they come up with is "This is what Greg tried to crack but he wasnt allowed to do his job in an Australian way by this ''''caucus'''' of seniors ." which is also an untruth. Greg himself has gone on record that he recieved wonderful support from Kiran More and the selectors. Dilip was a selector for just a few matches before the world cup onwards and the only thing he did was bring Saurav and Zaheer back...and they performed!

Agree fully. If India wants to compete at level of Aus then they have to have professionals playing at national level, not SPOILT superstars who manipulate their avgs against inferior competion on dead wickets. WHen the time comes to face true competion they fold completely showing their TRUE competency.
This time around they did not even face "true" competition and woke up the public to their real value.
Now we have political party supporting Sachin just like Saurav........well when you need politicians support to get into the team....it is time to go if you have any self respect left. Ganguly showed he did not have any....let us see if Tendulkar does.

Pls read the article, chappel has already said he was misquoted, and he never said that his life was in danger in india.

How often has Chappell "said" something and "denied" the next instant! You really wonder if India isn''t just a country-ful of liars. Greg never says or sms-es anything of course...the Indian idiots with their agenda and those who do not understand progress are up to their dirty tricks again!

I think Greg took up task of coaching the indian team to get some experience in coaching so that he can try for similar jobs in australia :)..and now he has done that and its time to leave :)..its like a fresher joining a software firm to get some experience and later trying for better opportunities..the Indian cricket board members are the biggest fools/

Phani Raj
His tenure as coach was one of the most troublesome for Indians,he could not translate any of Ideas into action with the Indian team.He being rigid guy could not gel with seniors ,and Rahul Dravid could not fill the gap between him and seniors. This led to India early exit from the world cup.Iam very happy that he did''nt take up offer given by BCCI,it may do world of good for Indian cricket. He was also mentioning that he feared for life after India''s early exit,he is only airing his unknown side of Indian supporters. He must know that they never go to extent of harming someone life for sake of cricket.
