Profile: Considered as the bad boy of Indian cricket with a knack of getting involved in controversies, some instigated by himself and some by others, like the spat he got into with Andrew Symonds during the recent Test series.
A very temperamental cricketer, Harbhajan was a member of the victorious Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s leadership after making his debut against South Africa at Johannesburg on December one.
The Sardar, who is nicknamed ‘the Turbanator’ single handedly won a Test series at home against world champions Australia in the early 2001, has 256 Test wickets (best 8 for 84 in an innings and 15 for 217 in a match) and another 186 (five for 31) One-Day wickets to his credit.
A very useful lower order batsman, the Punjab star, has scored 1133 Test runs with 66 as his highest score from 63 Tests and 883 ODI runs with 46 as his highest from 169 matches.
In the Twenty20 matches he has already taken nine wickets conceding 228 runs from 10 matches with two for 24 being his best figures for an economy rate of 7.12 and an average of 21.3 and scoring nine runs for a strike rate of 69.29.
With an annual package of 850,000 US Dollars, Harbhajan is one of the costliest spin bowlers in the IPL and is signed up by the Mumbai team.
