Dhoni after Dravid, determined by Tendulkar

It was Sachin Tendulkar's great idea to make Mahendra Singh Dhoni captain of India'a one-day team, BCCI president Sharad Pawar disclosed on Friday. After Rahul Dravid had stepped down, Tendulkar asked Pawar to hand over the reigns to Dhoni, who had an excellent relation with the team. Read The Article

Sidhu Is this a joke or what? Totally rubbish, after world cup 2007 debacle Dhoni was made vice-captain of the ODI team which clearly indicated that he would be the future captain of India. So was that recommended by Sachin Tendulkar? Dhoni undoubtedly is uncomfortable with the presence of the seniors so this is a strategy of BCCI to defend him. I never prefer Dhoni as a captain and I see his career in danger. ( Posted: Saturday , March 22, 2008 at 13:15 )
Straight Drive The seniors, a couple of months ago were not fit for 20-20. Now, suddenly with each of them being paid huge amounts are good for 20-20, and not only good, good enough to lead their respective teams. Money talks, and it really talks loud. Now as far as Dhoni and his so called younsters are concerned, God help them without the seniors. I would love to see them play a ODI or Test match without the seniors against australia. Australia already thrashed them in the 20-20 and what a thrashing it was. ( Posted: Saturday , March 22, 2008 at 11:35 )
Vikram Pawar says that Sachin recommended Dhoni. But I have never heard Dhoni appreciate Sachin or give him due credit. This proves that Dhoni is VERY UNGRATEFUL. He does not respect his SENIORS and give them due credit.
He is behaving like Sheikh Chilly - cutting the very branch that supports him. Dhoni does not realise that he is bound to fall! ( Posted: Saturday , March 22, 2008 at 11:01 )
LVISS WHEN SACHIN SUGGESTED "SOMEONE LIKE DHONI " HE WOULD NOT HAVE IMAGINED THAT HIS MAN WOULD GO HAMMER AND TONGS AT HIS CONTEMPORARIES. U CAN BE SURE DHONI WILL BRUSH ASIDE SACHINS COMMENTS ON SENIORS CONTRIBUTION. "WHAT CONTRIBUTION"''DHONI MAY AS WELL ASK.
LOOK AT THE SITUATION---SACHIN RECOMMENDED DHONI, SO HE CANNOT SAY DETHRONE HIM NOW. BCCI WILL NOT REPLACE DHONI, COZ SACHIN WANTED HIM. DHONI IS SECURE IN HIS PLACE. EXPECT MORE HARANGUES FROM HIM ON HOW GREAT HIS TEAM IS.
16000 RUNS AND NOT A SINGLE ARROGANT SENTENCE FROM SACHIN .THATS THE DIFRENCE BETWEEN SACHIN AND THE MAN HE RECOMMENDED. ( Posted: Saturday , March 22, 2008 at 09:03 )
more Bhupali Although Sachin is th oldest of the three(Saurabh, Dravir, Sachin) he will not retire until his son is inducted in the team , that too by himself. After all, it seems , he is the super selector and the Marathi lobby ( Parwar, Vengsarkar& co ) goes by his dictum. I used to adore Sachin . I hate him now. How can he be so mean to his own peers, particularly Saurabh who has alwyas stood by him, praised him?If he was concerned for the Indian team , he himself should have stepped down first. After successfully eliminating his two main threats ( his ridiculous performance compared to Saurabh, Dravir) now he reigns supreme in the team. Why bother for captaincy and associated risk with it? rohit its sad that dhoni made such statements...i want to see where he stands in his career after a few years from now...disrespecting seniors is not going to take him any where..i used to be his fan..not anymore ( Posted: Friday , March 21, 2008 at 21:04 )
Rajesh With due respect to all, it was a ''senior'', Sachin Tendulkar who stole the show in the two finals.... Nothing wrong in trying to develop a team for the future with promising youngsters (promise means performance) but the team should always have a good blend of experience and flair. For all the hype about the new youngsters on the horizon since the turn of the millennium, no one since Rahul Dravid has given the impression that they would go on to become a truly great player... be it Yuvraj, Kaif or whoever.... not even Sehwag for all his gifts. But within a couple of years of his debut Rahul Dravid was well & truly on his way to becoming a great batsman. So when you are dealing with someone of Dravid, Laxman or Ganguly''sstature you got to give them their due credit.. And they are still among the best, let''s not forget that. And hope no one needs to be reminded that test Cricket is still the ultimate test!

S Subramaniam Ganguly was un-ceremoniously removed to pave way for Dravid with bad blood which was evident. This was followed by Dilip Vengsarkar''s un-palatable comments on Dravid which forced him to quit the Captaincy. There were media report that Sachin Tendulkar was being tipped to take over the Captaincy but his reluctance in the past to shoulder the responsibility has lead to Dhoni to take over the mantle of Team India. Initially Dhoni''s adversaries had their oviews but Dhonhas disproved by his stupendous leadership qualities. Now he is calling the shots which he should have desisted in the larger interst of the Team India. ( Posted: Friday , March 21, 2008 at 17:15 )
