Yes, 1983 was a year of disaster, discovery, reward, recognition and achievement. For India, particularly the cricketing India, 1983 was a watershed. On Saturday the 25th of June at around midnight India became World Champions in cricket and that too in a format, which was not its cup of tea. When Mohinder Amarnath trapped Micheal Holding lbw at 7.25 PM GMT at Lord’s, India had beaten twice world champions and holders of the title West Indies by 43 runs. Read Column »
The Houdini Act
Drama will be just the perfect word to describe India’s tour to Australia in 1980-81. Although, to be exact, most of the drama was reserved for just one venue – the magnificent Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). In one dramatic incident, Indians were spectators & not "actors" in the middle but two episode that unfolded in this series had Indians on stage. Read Column »
Shastri arrives
No doubt Shastri’s name in Indian history shall be written alongside Vinoo Mankad as a genuine all rounder. Given the shrewdness, cricketing intellect, experience and all rounder status, it is a pity Ravi Shastri didn’t captain India much. Read Column »
