Nandakumar Moorkath It is no use recalling old war-horses like Ganguly or Laxman, instead we must look forward and groom the young. Let the selection be on basis of pure merit and let the judges be panel of pure professionals like Kapil Dev,Gavaskar,Amarnath,Srikanth,Ravi Shastri, etc.
Why not have a series of 7 or 10 challenger games in the champion trophy format between 33 or 44 chosen best talented batsman, bowlers and fielders and let the selection be made after the challenger series. It is no use blaming the captain or coach if the players cannot take the responsibility themselves. It is depressing to see that none of our players including Sachin or Sehwag or Dravid think out of the box and none take on the bowlers with new strategies or plans.
It is the change in mind-set of the players that need to change and they need to develop this will power and killer instinct, at least to make the fans and the nation proud!
All players must be shown the video recording of their failures and it is the duty of the coach to tell them what to do to rectify their mistakes and take the team to victory. ( Posted: Thursday , November 02, 2006 at 23:33 )
rattan Greg chappel should be sacked as he has not been able to deliver as a coach.Had there beeen an indian coach ,he would had been sacked after such a long series of defeats of Indian team. ( Posted: Wednesday, November 01, 2006 at 00:36 )
more Naresh Mr. Jha is pro-ganguly. i always think ganguly was lucky b''coz he had sachin, rahul & laxman at the peak of their form. so even if he did not perform, he always had this big 3 who would perform for him. somebody needs to remind Mr. Jha that ganguly would have been history had we lost the test series against aus on indian soil. we were beaten black & blue in the 1st test & crashing for a heavy defeat in the 2nd before laxman & dravid scripted an epic comeback. again natwest was won by 2 young guns yuvraj & Kaif. & the world cup, it was sachin all the way. sachin failed in 2 matches, & we lost both those. where was ganguly then? his form was pathetic in the WC to say the least. b''coz india reached the final, the credit doesnt go to him b''coz he was the captain. tell me when was the last time we saw a saurav making a match winning contribution to demand a place in the playing 11. forget all these war-horses like ganguly, laxman, kumble. give players like raina, badrinath oppurtunities, i am sure they will learn with time & be match winners. for bowling, i would like to see zaheer, balaji, nehra & munaf as pace spearheads & 2 spinners in bhajji & powar. Dinesh Bhagavath Mr.Jha,U are probably one of the best writers, but I am dissapointed that U are still mentioning about Tendulkar''s illusionary glorious innings.Aprt from his heriocs on the placid Shaejah pitch,Rahul,Anil,Saurav have contributed more to Indian cricket. more Ashish Since Sanjay Jha likes Ganguly so much, let''s look at Ganguly''s ODI performance in 2004 & 2005:

Mat Runs HS BatAv 100 50
Career 279 10123 183 40.65 22 60
2004 31 947 90 32.65 0 7
2005 13 209 51 17.41 0 1

If this doesn''t convince that Ganguly should have been dropped long back, not sure what else does. Even during WC2003, Ganguly performed only against likes of Kenya and Namibia.

The fact that Ganguly was big liability due to his lack of batting performance is well known secret.

Yes, the recent poor performance by Indian team hurts but everything needs to be put in right perspective. A coach can not do miracles - at the end of the day it is the players who have to go out in the middle and perform. Our cricketers are more obsessed with commercial endorsements than performance on the field.

Greg is not perfect but I am happy that he helped get rid of parasite called Ganguly who should have been sacked long time back.

sudarshan Bring back Ganguly?? Ha,ha,ha. How many runs did he score in the last match he played against the micky mouse attack of Central Zone?? Why not bring back Azar, Kapil Dev etc. At least they can still score runs and do not have lead feet and chicken heart. ( Posted: Tuesday , October 31, 2006 at 19:38 )
Deekay As an Indian cricket fan I feel helpless. Don''t know whom to blame, really! Greg Chappell? Throw him out, but then what''s the alternative? Brink back Ganguly? No way, I mean how can you bring back somebody who hasn''t even performed at the club level of late. Agreed, his sacking was not justified, but how can you bring him back with this kind of form? Two wrongs don''t make a right, hai na? VVS? Well for me he''s one Indian cricketer who''s been humiliated by the selectors time and again. A true genius, truly wasted! But now, with due respect to his enormous talent, I think we should preserve him for the test matches, and Sachin, well! I am still not ready to believe that his cricketing days are over. To me, he''s India''s most committed cricketer ever. I think I''ll wait a little longer to pass my verdict on him. Coming to the Indian team and its recent failures, I think we need a healthy combo of youth and experience and the selectors have tried there best to find the right balance this time around, barring the inclusion of Wasim Jaffer in place of Gautam Gambhir. Team India looks good. Team India will rock again. That''s my prediction. Have faith, my dear countymen. Have faith! ( Posted: Tuesday , October 31, 2006 at 19:30 )
more Anita A joy to read you, Mr Jha. This past year we watched with horror how our braveheart Sourav was dragged through the mud by Chappell and his media boys. We watched Rahul abandon his mate pronto. No doubt his machinations since Souravs last Pakistan tour had borne fruit. He watched Souravs public inquisition in silence with the relish of a petty, envious man. So all Shastris predictions failed! The young guns are not firing, the 5-bowler theory is not working and SL, Pak & India are out of Champions Trophy! And why was Rohan Gavaskar not considered for SA? He scored handsomely in the Duleep. Rohan has been done in by 2 facts: he is Sunils son & he plays for newly untouchable Bengal. Surely on current form Rohan could have filled Rainas shoes! But Indian cricket has entered the Orwellian woods! Lies are true, words like performance are phony & and even a mediocre ex like Shastri has the licence to snigger: Are you joking? when asked if Ganguly should go to SA! Good luck, Indian Crooked Team. Rahul, the Sourav albatross will hang round your neck! Relocate to Perth after your sell-by date, mate!

suman AS expected aussies won with a bang. Aus played a better cricket and played as desciplined team. their batting exceptional and accurate bowling was supported by superb fielding. A deciplined team effort that makes aussies world champions.
ind failed in bowling and pathetic fielding. inda gave 24 extra runs. many players were playing as if they want to cement their place in team. this was happened in DLF cup. india lost 25 mathces , won 5 against Aus from 2001 .

Ponting was struggling too until this match, he played when needed. The Australians were far too superior than insi t it, but we did our part by helping them through unimaginative bowling and poor fielding.
team india exit is very disappointing but full credit to aussies they are really world no.1. team

. ind team is full of talent and hardworking players self belief and team work can make ind world beaters

best of luck to team india

Radha krishnan Indian team ve to look back the past. We ve good and thinking captains like md.Azar, Ganguly, etc. Now we need a thinking captain. Captain ve to think in the ground.Am not blaming Rahul Dravid. I don think he ve tat capacity. He s doing the thing what Greg ordered to him. This is the only thing we ve to look back. So main thing is captain ve to think in the field. So we need experienced guy like ganguly. This is the correct time to change the captain. Else the Indian team will go like ZIMBAWE and Bangladesh. So this is the time to look back our weakness. Coz only short time s there for world cup. We ve to think why this fate for Indian cricket. This s due to coach Greg. I don like to blame him. He s a good coach. But we ve to blame only him. Now the Indain team need Sourav Ganguly(Thinking Captain). We can post comment like this. But decision should be made by BCCI. So we ve to wait to see the Indian Cricket team''s fate. I thought Indian cricket era is going to the darkest side. ( Posted: Tuesday , October 31, 2006 at 17:16 )
