Lakshminarayanan The fact is that the Indian team members do not like to be bossed over!( as did Greg) They do not want to be disciplined by any one including the coach. They cannot take comments and criticisms said in the interest of the team. If Chandu uncle is quite and tolerent, he is a successful Manager. After all,it is the players who have to perform on the field. No coach or Manager can play for them. With due respects to him, I feel that Chandu Borde does not deserve the praise for the performance of the Indian team thus far. ( Posted: Thursday , July 19, 2007 at 19:36 )
lokyshanks everybody knows that all managers have their own stles and methods. i dont think the sucess of a team depends very much on the manager but team morale and focus can be affected ny the manager.it is good that the coaching roles have been split up so that one person does not take the whole responsibility. in my opinion though indian managrers will do as well as anybody else provided we have coaches for the different skills also in the troupe. Lt Col (Retd) Sandeep Pandit I think its nor correct to give credit to Borde for making saurav and Sachin open the innings. The decision was Dravids'' 100 percent. Remember him telling the media that he will be the boss during the match? When Chappell was the coach, Dravid didn''t have much say. Now that he has got back the authority to take decisions, he is not given the credit. What have you people got against Dravid that you do not want to give him credit for the good decisions that he takes but criticise him for everything wrong that happens with the team? karthik i dont think Mr.Borde presence has in anyway motiveted team to perform well.its better for players to be self motivated and play for the pride of the country rather than depending on others. ( Posted: Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 17:16 )
Sushant I do no believe that Chandu Borde had anything to do with the team strategies...I wonder if there is any basis for putting it in an article! ( Posted: Saturday , July 07, 2007 at 00:17 )
Dr.Nagendra Dear author,
You have eloborately praised Tendulkar but only few words for his partner Saurav? This shows your biased review. They did as a pair and you should have been crediting the pair for the achievement and not only person from the pair. Please remember he has also delivered and scored around 11000 runs. more Raj It''s not due to any coach or manager. Our player are not united so they loose wen they will be united they can defeat any team in world. ( Posted: Tuesday , July 03, 2007 at 18:47 )
B.R.Krishnan Sachin and Saurav opening combination worked because these were not high scoring matches. But at the rate at which they scored their runs, we will not have much chance in high scoring matches. But you can''t blame them for that because if they go for quick runs and lose their wicket, the opposition will get a moral boost.
Instead if a Gambir or Uttappa scored a quick 30-40 runs and lose their wicket, it doesn''t matter. The opposition knows that the big guns are yet to come and they will still be under pressure.
It was India''s misfortune that the youngsters did not take up the challenge and the seniors were adamant and prejudiced. ( Posted: Tuesday , July 03, 2007 at 16:10 )
Sundar What rubbish? At best Chandu Borde could have given grandfatherly advice. So far as the opening pair goes i agree Sachin-Saurav have been the best in the business and whoever broke it made biggest blunder.Greg Chappell doesnt have any friends,i guess, in cricketnext. Ganesh Vaideeswaran The problem with all of us is we come to conclusions based on a single event. Having beaten a second rung South Africans ( with Smith and Pollock not there its indeed second rung ) we now start bragging this and that and start giving credit and stuff like that. Before the start of this tour, Chandu Borde was seen a misfit ( indeed he is considering how cricket has evolved over a period of time ) and now here we are trying to praise him for his contribution. Honestly I feel no Indian ( with due respects to the stalwarts of yester years ) can be a successful coach for the simple reason, cricket is a totally different game today. How many of our Indian cricketers can confidently say that they were physically as fit as it is required to be these days and how many of them were as mentally strong as they need to be. We need to accept the fact that talent alone is not enough to succeed in today''s cricketing world and that one needs to hone the other skills too. So can we stop the habit of these credit and debits on cricketers and coaches based on small events. After all ONE SWALLOW DOES NOT MAKE A SUMMER. Does it ?
