Krishnamachari Srikkanth

Cricketer

Krishnamachari Srikkanth was one of the most destructive batsmen who could decimate the strongest and most fearsome attacks in the world by his vast range of shots. After making his debut at the age of 21, Srikkanth along with Sunil Gavaskar gave India many memorable starts in both forms of the game. A member of the World Cup winning squad, he was appointed the skipper for the 1989 tour of Pakistan. After being ignored for the South Zone team in 1993 Srikkanth announced his retirement.

1 down, but a lot to look forward to

After a fantastic Test series win on English soil since 21 years, the Indian team on Tuesday suffered a horrific defeat at the hands of England, due to, not surprisingly, predictable errors. I haven't understood why India take the field first invariably during one-dayers on foreign soil. The conditions at the Rose Bowl did seem helpful for the bowlers during the afternoon, but with seven batsmen in the line-up, they should eye a big target rather than going after one.

Dhoni was a revelation

Posted Tuesday , July 24, 2007

India escaped losing the Lord's Test because of two factors. The first and the most important was the weather and the second was Mahendra Singh Dhoni who curbed his attacking instincts and shielded the tail enders against a good and penetrative England attack. But what worries me is that our batting failed in the first innings and that gave England a huge advantage. The Indian bowlers failed to restrict the Kevin Pietersen and Matthew Prior in the second innings and so the team was left with a big target....

Odds stacked against India

Posted Monday , July 23, 2007

The highlight of the fourth day's play at Lord's for me was the extraordinary innings by Kevin Pietersen. This England middle order batsman's outrageous talent to dominate bowling is a treat to watch and his knock in the second innings might just make the difference in the outcome of the match. His counter-attack with Matthew Prior in the post lunch session was the key to England's massive lead after R P Singh ran through its middle order. India....

Not a healthy sign

Posted Sunday , July 22, 2007

The third day at Lord's ended with England on top and India on the backfoot, trying desperately to stay in the game. India barely managed to put up 200 runs on the board and have added over a distinct advantage to England. The entire day went to the England team, with the home-side 174 runs ahead. India buckling under pressure once again is not a good sign for Indian cricket. The much reputed Indian batting failed after the....
