A keen student of the game V Veera Kumar represented Maharaja’s College, Mysore, in cricket. But he found his calling in writing, rather than playing, cricket. He has covered all major cricket tournaments, including Reliance World Cup. Some of the cricketing greats he has interviewed include Ajit Wadekar, Nari Contractor, Sandeep Patil, G R Vishwanath, Vivian Richards, Sunil Gavaskar, Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath and Sachin Tendulkar.

Selectors are jokers!

A Couple of decades ago, India's gutsy middle order batsman Mohinder Amarnath called the Indian selectors 'a bunch of jokers' and in the present context, after the ODI team was picked for the first two matches against Pakistan, one has to agree with Jimmy Amarnath 100 per cent. Otherwise how would you explain the dropping of former Indian captain Rahul Dravid, after just one bad series against the world champions Australia, and sacking of Dinesh Karthik even before the Challenger Series came to an end. What is shocking....

If you go by the response the first ever Twenty20 International between India and Australia at the Brabourne Stadium got, one wonders why it has taken BCCI so long to recognize the potential of this new format. May be the richest cricket body in the world aren't as smart as they are made out to be or their coffers are over flowing with cash that they are not interested in cashing-in on this shortest version of cricket so far. Probably the popularity of the Twenty20 format so far....

Desperate measures!

The Indian selectors have shown their desperation by picking Murali Kartik, who has been in the wilderness for the last 19 months and had almost called it a day, for the next two ODIs against Australia. With all respect to Murali's talent as a left arm spinner, who was treated shabbily by the selectors in the past despite a few very good performances, he is not getting any younger and is past his prime. Otherwise, why would a player, who still has a future in international scene, become....
