A keen student of the game V Veera Kumar represented Maharaja’s College, Mysore, in cricket. But he found his calling in writing, rather than playing, cricket. He has covered all major cricket tournaments, including Reliance World Cup. Some of the cricketing greats he has interviewed include Ajit Wadekar, Nari Contractor, Sandeep Patil, G R Vishwanath, Vivian Richards, Sunil Gavaskar, Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath and Sachin Tendulkar.

The comparison between Kapil Dev’s devils and the present Team India under Rahul Dravid is bound to throw up one significant fact that the World Cup winning 1983 team in England had the presence of quality all-rounders, which is lacking in the present team. Like the saying goes, catches win matches, the team with effective all-rounders (more than three) holds a clear advantage in a One-Day tournament. Why was Dravid adamant?

Why was Indian captain Rahul Dravid adamant of including out-of-form Virender Sehwag (with massive attitude) in the playing eleven for the third and final Test against South Africa when the team management wanted to play an additional spinner? Probably the answer to this question will never be found as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials were tight-lipped when asked to comment on the issue and were too busy in finding out who leaked the confidential report filed by the Indian team manager Chetan Desai during....

Sehwag can be effective in the middle

There is talk that dashing Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag, who was dropped from the One-Day team due lack of form in South Africa, may be pushed down the order during the home series against Sri Lanka starting on February 8 during his comeback bid. In fact sending Sehwag in the middle order may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Indian team, which has been losing matches due to a brittle middle order. With Sourav Ganguly and Robin Uthappa proving quite effective so far....

Are Indians peaking at the right time?

Are the Indian cricketers peaking at the right time for the World Cup at the West Indies in March? From the recent on-field developments, it seems that the Indian batsmen, who were pathetically out-of-form are slowly but surely regaining their confidence but the final test however will be when they play the four One-Day games against the Sri Lankans starting from February eight.
