Debacle at Durban

Posted Sunday , December 31, 2006 13:38

India’s batting woes continued unabated in the second Test against South Africa before the visitors succumbed to a 174-run defeat at Durban. With the three-match Test series level at 1-all, India’s chances of an away victory now looks a distant dream until and unless they can come back strongly in the third and final Test match at Cape Town starting on Tuesday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seems to be in the habit of goofing-up even simple things like whether to send a replacement to South Africa or not, after sending back all-rounder Irfan Pathan due to poor bowling form even though he is the only Indian player to have scored a century during the African Safari. The wicket....

Why was Pathan picked?

Posted Monday , December 25, 2006 20:39

Does it take eight months for Indian selectors to realise that all-rounder Irfan Pathan will be better off playing Ranji Trophy for Baroda than warming the bench in South Africa? Otherwise why would they send back the only Indian batsman to have scored a century during the on-going African Safari mid-way through the tour? Or are the selectors simply blind and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is partial to certain senior players? Does the same yardstick apply to all the members of Team....
